Electric Water Heater Install

Ship Bottom Electric Water Heater Installation

Electric water heaters seem like simple systems in your home or business, but when it comes to picking out the size you need or the local plumbing code to follow it can become rather difficult. When it comes to installing a new water heater that is connected and operated by electricity, it is often best to consult with a plumbing company qualified to do the work.

Unfortunately, most people have no idea what to do if their water heater breaks down or is functioning incorrectly. If you purchase from a big brand box store then the first challenge you have to deal with is - “is my water heater under warranty?”

Before we get to potential problems, the warranty is the first thing to cover.

Check your heater for its details, check the date of manufacture, which should appear on its rating plate, and find out if you're still covered for any problems.

If you are, you can contact the manufacturer or, if you know, the store you purchased it from. Hopefully, you had a company like Express Plumbing install the new electric water heater that comes with guarantees and extended warranties.

You need to bear-in-mind that a warranty will generally only cover parts; you will have to cover any labor costs yourself.

Electric Water Heater Issues

These are common issues we come across here on the island when getting water heater calls pertaining to electric systems:

Water Leaks

The most common cause of water leaks from your electric water heater tank is bad plumbing connections or leaking valves. Maybe tightening the connections with a wrench will solve the leaking issues, but more often than so the tank is old, not properly maintained and needs to be replaced. If valves or connections are broken, you may need professional electric water heater services to replace them.

The other cause of leaks is a corroded or broken tank. In this case, complete replacement of the tank is the only option.

Dirty Water or Bad Smells

Sometimes, your hot water might come out with a brown, red or yellow tint. This is caused by corrosion either within the tank or in the pipes around your property and would need to be addressed by a professional plumber.

The root of bad smells—usually a rotten-eggs type odor—is generally a bacteria buildup. In this case, the anode rod may require replacement, also a job for a professional plumber.

Noisy and Not Normal

The most common cause of noises from your electric water heater tank is a buildup of sediment in the bottom of the tank. This can cause overheating, leading to the water boiling, which is the odd noise you may hear.

Usually, this can be solved by draining the tank and flushing water through it.

However, if the sediment buildup is too much to remove, you may need to contact professional electric water heater services and maybe even replace the tank.

Temperature Issues

If the water is cold, you may be getting no power to the element. Check the breaker and see if that's the issue.

If not, there may be a problem with the thermostat. If the water is too hot, it's usually because your thermostat is set too high. The recommended temperature for balancing heat and efficiency is 120º/130ºF.
